G-ENERGY TEAM HOLDS SECOND PLACE IN FIA WORLD CUP CLASSIFICATION AFTER “ITALIAN BAJA 2014"
Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov, representing G-Energy Team, takes the second place in the FIA World Cup classification for cross-country rallies after "Italian Baja 2014".
Second round of FIA World Cup for cross-country rallies – “Italian Baja 2014" finished on Sunday, 16th of March, in Pordenone, Italy. Two crews of G-Energy Team took points, having finished the race on 4th and 8th places in the overall ranking.
The Italian race differs from other races of World Cup by the unique route including the well-known beds of the rivers with large pebble and fords, and also fast tracks among vineyards. Due to the high water level in the rivers and active thawing of snow in mountains, the route of race was modified. In three days race participants passed 10 special stages!
After the 9 km of Prologue, which has defined the starting positions for the second Leg, the battle has begun. Very demanding route, fast turns, artful "vineyards", narrow tracks, bridges and fords didn't grant the right for a mistake, and during all special stages every second was counted.
Following the results of the race Saturday, Vladimir Vasilyev together with Konstantin Zhiltsov took the fifth position in the overall ranking, 1,5 minutes behind the leader.
The second day brought even more driving spirit in fight for a podium, tension increased to a limit in top-5. Vladimir Vasilyev/Konstantin Zhiltsov overtook Martin Kaczmarski / Filippe Palmeiro, actively joined in fight for the third place.
Before start of the second and final section the difference between Marek Dabrowski and Vladimir Vasilyev made 17 seconds, and nerves of Poles handed over. Twice Dambrovsky's navigator drove on control points not in due time, however, judges didn't give them any penalty. The situation on the route became complicated for Russians when on the first special stage of the second section the crew passed away one turn, having lost precious seconds, and finally kept the 4th position.
Vladimir Vasilyev: "We managed to strengthen positions in FIA World Cup classification. We tried to go fast and without mistakes, and missed only 18 seconds to get the third place. I would like to express gratitude to G-Energy for support. The car was perfect, and we are looking for the future victories with support of reliable partners - X-Raid team and G-Energy with its premium engine oils".
The second crew of team – Ruslan Misikov and Vitaly Yevtekhov have shown its stable driving and skills during both race days, having kept a total 8th position in the overall ranking of race.
Vitaly Yevtekhov: "We did the race with good result, finishing on 8th position in overall ranking. Each stage Ruslan drove better, faster and without mistakes, so if we had one day of training before race, the result could be even better".
After two Baja events of FIA World Cup, Vladimir Vasilyev/Konstantin Zhiltsov secures 2nd position with 33 points in FIA Classification, and Ruslan Misikov / Vitaly Yevtekhov are seventh with 12 points.
The next round of FIA World Cup will take place in two weeks in Arab Emirates on Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge which classified with double coefficient of complexity and respectively, double portion of points!

"A challenge for those who go on. A dream for those who stay behind." This is how the founder of the Dakar Rally, Thierry Sabine, once described his inspiration for the most fascinating rally event on the international motorsport calendar. Since 1978, courageous drivers on motorcycles, quads, in cars and trucks have been demonstrating their ability as they make their way through the desert on the world's most infamous endurance rally.
Up to 2008, the event was held exclusively in Africa, and was initially known as the "Paris-Dakar Rally" due to the location of its start and finish. Over the course of time, the route and the start and finish locations have changed several times. In 1995 the rally started elsewhere other than Paris for the first time. "Paris-Dakar" became "Dakar". Then, in 2009, the unsettled political situation in some African countries saw the event moved to South America, where it has been held since – and has lost none of its original appeal.
All this makes the Dakar Rally a unique challenge for man and machine. Unlike rallies such as those in the World Rally Championship (WRC), this marathon rally does not take place on designated, blocked-off roads and routes, but on open, largely unmarked terrain. Each entrant must first and foremost rely on his/her driving skills.
The competitors must complete up to 800 kilometres per day – a nerve-wracking, two-week marathon, during which the organisers only allow the drivers one rest day. No wonder more than 50% of entrants retire from the Dakar Rally each year. Whatever happens, every day will be an exciting day once the Dakar Rally gets underway again in January 2014.
