VRT G-ENERGY TEAM GAINED “GOLD" AND “BRONZE" MEDALS ON THE SECOND ROUND OF RUSSIAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP!

Second round of Russian Cross-Country Championship - Astrakhan rally raid "Gold Kagan 2014" finished on 19th April 2014 with a second victory of crew of Vladimir Vasilyev/Konstantin Zhiltsov. On the finish black BMW X3CC with starting number 100 crossed the finish line with an advantage of 4 min. 7 sec. ahead the closest rival of Boris Gadasin/Alexey Kuzmich (G-Force Proto NL).

Another BMW X3CC with Ruslan Misikov / Vitaly Yevtekhov secured the third place on podium. The competitors have passed 4 racing days with more than 1000 kms of distance.

After the brilliant victory in “Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2014" Vasilyev and Zhiltsov took the second victory in Astrakhan. After two Russian races of national cross-country championship in Saint-Petersburg (Baja “Russia - Northern Forest 2014") and the present “Gold of Kagan 2014" in Astrakhan Russian pairing became a leader of the “home" championship.

Vladimir Vasilyev: Very hard and bumpy route! We felt a great pressure for the body and for the cars it was really big examine. The thing I like in Astrakhan is its various landscapes and covering with steppes, sand and narrow tracks. There were some sections with dunes which were difficult to be taken "in a forehead", it was necessary to choose the correct directions of bypass them and took the waypoints. We did a good race, without mistakes. My co-driver did a great job, as navigation was difficult.

Ruslan Misikov: The first two days were difficult for us, then we found our rhythm and on the finish I felt that 2-3 days more would be great to show all our skills and to race with our rivals. We had a good race with Boris Gadasin, when we followed each other on the track, but last day we can't be so close to him because it was really big dust. Anyway we are happy to be on podium, because it was really hard this year, much more harder than in 2009 when we won here!

Konstantin Zhiltsov: In April we have a quite busy schedule of races, and on the one hand, physically it is heavy to participate from race to race and to go without interruption, but on the other hand, it is pleasant to me that we have a great possibility to pass more and more race distances and each time became ready for a more higher result. At the beginning of the season we felt some doubts and fears of sands and dunes like in Abu Dhabi, because Vladimir did not have much experience before, but the races gave us confidence and we could win! Astrakhan is very interesting and difficult race. We could use our skills and achieve the best result! We had three BMW X3CC on the start line and all of the cars were assisted by Russian mechanics and engineers and this is a great step for our cooperation with X-Raid. All did a great job, thanks and we are happy for the support of our partner G-Energy. It is good experience for us and it has a great future for sure!

40 cars and trucks and almost 20 bikes and quads reached the finish of the rally and in T4 category KAMAZ truck with Ayrat Mardeev won the race ahead of Eduard Nikolayev, starting the preparation to “Dakar-2015".
